Start here: "House of Leaves" is a book that's bigger on the inside than it is outside. It isn't a book to be read from the first page to the last -- It's more a story to be explored, and it's a story about exploration. In nearly every aspect, how you read the book is a direct reflection of what's going on in the story at that point.

5/5(5). house of leaves theory. The book is like the house itself (if you have the american edition, the text itself is inches bigger than the cover). The interweaving narratives are full of doubt, contradictions and errors.

It plays with the forms of a variety of texts and with the actual physical properties of a book. All of which sounds like a lot of pretentious guff - and would not necessarily forbid reading it on the kindle - but a lot of the text in the book is inessential to the story.

Here’s what I plan to do. There is a book, entitled the House of Leaves that is a cult classic. You’ve almost assuredly heard of it because like 75% of the people that come to this page will have just typed the phrase – “House of Leaves Explained” or some such.

House of Leaves [is] the first major experimental novel of the new millennium. And it's a monster like David Foster Wallace channeling H.P.
